BYD will supply a battery energy storage system (BESS) for Fortescue's green energy grid in Western Australia. The project will deploy between 4 and 5 GWh of BYD storage capacity.

The infrastructure includes 1.2 GW of solar power. The grid also incorporates over 600 MW of wind power. Fortescue intends to power its mining equipment 24/7 without using fossil fuels.

Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2028. This order highlights BYD's technological growth in the energy storage sector beyond its electric vehicle business.
