Google is rolling out a new fake call detection feature to its Phone app on Android devices. The tool aims to combat AI-powered deepfake scams where criminals impersonate family members or authority figures to solicit money.

The system sends a silent, encrypted verification signal between two Android phones using the Phone by Google app. If a call originates from a spoofed number, the signal is absent and the user receives an on-screen warning to hang up.

Google is releasing the tool globally, starting with Pixel devices. The feature requires both parties to use Android 12 or newer with specific Google apps installed.
