A Johnson & Johnson lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court ended in a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict.
Brad Yandell brought the case. He alleged asbestos in Johnson & Johnson's talc products, including Johnson's Baby Powder, caused his wife's fatal mesothelioma.
Judge Eric Taylor declared the mistrial after four days of deliberations. Jurors reportedly split 7-5 in the plaintiff's favor on whether asbestos exposure from the products substantially caused the cancer. Johnson & Johnson faces thousands of similar cases regarding its talc-based products. The plaintiff's counsel stated an intent to retry the case.
