Eli Lilly reported positive Phase 1b Heart-2 trial results for VERVE-102, an investigational gene-editing therapy for high-risk cardiovascular patients.

A single infusion of the treatment reduced LDL-C cholesterol by up to 62% at the highest dose. The therapy also lowered the target protein PCSK9 by up to 88%. These reductions remained sustained for up to 18 months.

VERVE-102 permanently disables the PCSK9 gene in the liver to mimic natural heart disease protection. Researchers presented the data at the European Atherosclerosis Society Congress.

Lilly plans to initiate a Phase 2 clinical study of VERVE-102 by the end of 2026.
