MiniMed launched the MiniMed Flex system in the U.S. as its smallest insulin pump to date. Users control the screenless device entirely through a smartphone application. The system initially pairs with the Simplera Sync continuous glucose monitor.
The pump is approximately 50% smaller than previous models. Each device holds up to 300 units of insulin. The SmartGuard algorithm with Meal Detection technology adjusts insulin delivery every five minutes based on sensor readings.
Regulatory clearance covers type 1 diabetes patients aged seven and older. The system is also approved for adults with insulin-requiring type 2 diabetes. MiniMed plans to release a version compatible with Abbott's Instinct sensor later this summer.
