Thinking Machines Lab, founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, unveiled a research preview of its new interaction models. The technology enables AI to listen, see, and process user input while simultaneously generating responses. This architecture aims to replace stilted, turn-based interactions with natural, real-time conversations.

The system facilitates full-duplex communication by breaking interactions into 200-millisecond micro-turns. These micro-turns allow the AI to react continuously to verbal and visual cues.

The startup raised $2 billion. This funding round closed in 2025. Investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Nvidia, and AMD. This capital supports the company’s goal to solve the bandwidth bottleneck in human-AI collaboration.
