Novo Nordisk stopped two late-stage clinical trials for its experimental heart disease drug, ziltivekimab. An independent data monitoring committee recommended the halt after concluding the trials had a low probability of success.
The company’s stock fell approximately 1.55% in pre-market trading following the announcement. This development represents a setback in Novo Nordisk's strategy to diversify its portfolio beyond diabetes and obesity treatments.
Ziltivekimab previously failed a Phase 3 trial in July. A separate study for the drug in patients recovering from heart attacks will continue, with results anticipated in the first half of 2027.
