South Korean retail investors became net sellers of Samsung Electronics in September for the first time in five months. Individual investors offloaded approximately ₩5.212 trillion ($3.9 billion) in shares between September 1 and 11. Continued selling from foreign investors further strained the stock's supply-demand balance.
A strengthening South Korean won is negatively impacting earnings forecasts for the semiconductor giant. Analysts reduced the combined 2026 operating profit estimates for Samsung and SK Hynix by ₩21 trillion over the past two months. The currency's rapid appreciation stems from a boom in semiconductor exports.
Corporate buybacks helped stabilize the share price despite heavy selling pressure. Samsung Electronics stock recorded a minor decline of 0.19% during this period.
