Vale S.A. suspended the planned Initial Public Offering (IPO) for its subsidiary, Vale Base Metals (VBM). Recent filings indicate the decision stems from political opposition within Brazil. Officials expressed concerns regarding foreign control over strategic mineral resources like copper and nickel.

The VBM unit reported a 79% year-over-year increase in adjusted EBITDA for the second quarter of 2026. This figure reached US$1.3 billion during that period.

The IPO aimed to unlock value from the division while supporting growth projects. These projects include a potential joint venture with Glencore in Canada. Vale has not announced a new timeline for the offering.
