RTX’s Pratt & Whitney division completed a digital assembly readiness review for the XA103 engine. This milestone transitions the U.S. Air Force’s Next Generation Adaptive Propulsion (NGAP) program from digital design to physical hardware procurement.
The company is now acquiring components from its supply base to build the prototype. Testing of the assembled XA103 engine is expected to begin in the late 2020s.
The XA103 adaptive cycle engine provides advanced fuel efficiency, power, and survivability for next-generation combat aircraft. This modernization program aims to ensure U.S. Air Force air superiority against future threats.
