Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) secured approval for the third-phase expansion of Longtan Science Park in Hsinchu. Taiwan’s National Development Council approved the 104-hectare plan. The project now awaits final confirmation from the Executive Yuan.
The expansion enables manufacturing nodes more advanced than 1.4-nanometers (nm). This facility is critical for TSMC’s roadmap for sub-1.4nm process technologies. The project was revived after reducing the development area to address local opposition.
Infrastructure construction for the new park expansion will begin in 2030. The first of three planned factories expects to start mass production in 2030. This timeline keeps TSMC in direct competition with Intel for next-generation semiconductor dominance.
